Neck arthritis treatment. Coloured X-ray angiogram of the neck of a 48 year old patient with severe osteoarthritis of the neck, whose cervical spine has been stabilised with a metal plate (rectangular). The plate is holding two adjacent vertebrae together in the correct alignment. The two blood vessels seen either side of the plate are vertebral arteries. This procedure is known as arthrodesis. Osteoarthritis of the neck, also known as cervical spondylosis, is a disease associated with the ageing process and mechanical stress. The joints between the vertebrae (neck bones) become compacted and bony growths (osteophytes) also form.
