Polymorphic light eruption. Close-up of polymorphic light eruption (PMLE) on a patient's neck. PMLE is a skin condition caused by exposure to sunlight. Symptoms include skin irritations, which may be itchy or painful. It has been shown that PMLE is caused by an immune reaction to a compound in the skin that is altered by exposure to ultraviolet light, although the exact cause in unknown.
