Neurofibromatosis. Close-up of a patient's leg with a 'cafe au lait' skin spot (darker patch) caused by neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF 1), or Recklinhausen disease. Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetically-inherited disorder in which the nerve tissue grows tumours (neurofibromas) that may be benign (non-cancerous) and may cause serious damage by compressing nerves and other tissues.
