Light micrograph of the chromosomes (karyotype) of a male with Klinefelter's syndrome. Humans have 46 chromosomes arranged in 23 pairs. Klinefelter's syndrome is a genetic disorder characterised by 3 sex chromosomes, XXY, rather than the normal XX female or XY male configurations. Patients affected are male in appearance, tall and thin, with small testes. Normal sperm is absent, there may be breast enlargement, and an absence of facial or body hair.
