Interstitial nephritis. Light micrograph of a section through a kidney affected by chronic interstitial nephritis. Nephritis is inflammation of the nephrons in the kidneys. Interstitial nephritis is a form of nephritis affecting the interstitium of the kidneys surrounding the tubules. It can either be acute, where it occurs suddenly, or chronic (as here), where it is ongoing and eventually ends in kidney failure. Magnification: x280, when printed 10 centimetres wide.
