Ear nerve block. Artwork of syringes being used to inject local anaesthetic to numb four nerves supplying the ear, a procedure known as a nerve block. The nerves affected are the great auricular nerve, the lesser occipital nerve, the auriculotemporal nerve, and the auricular branch of the vagus nerve. This numbs and allows minor surgery to be carried out on the diamond-shaped area (white lines). The injections are carried out above (top) and below (bottom) the ear, with the syringes moved as shown by the arrows. This is also known as the ring block technique.
