Mite on human skin. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of human skin, showing the rear end of a follicle mite (Demodex folliculorum, centre) embedded in a hair follicle (round). D. folliculorum is a species of parasitic/commensal face mite that lives on the skin of humans. When large numbers of D. folliculorum are found on humans, the infestation is known as demodicosis. Magnification: x570, when printed 10 centimetres wide.
