River Techa. Two children cross the River Techa in Russia. The river and many communities along its length were polluted with radioactivity following the explosion at the Mayak nuclear fuel reprocessing plant in 1957. Even before the accident, radioactive waste had been routinely dumped in the river. The accident, named after the village of Kyshtym, was the third worst nuclear accident in history (after Chernobyl and Fukushima). Photographed in 2010.
