Space co-operation, Dignitaries signing an accord for co-operation between the Soviet Union and France in space exploration in Moscow in 1988. At left is Vladimir Kotelnikov, Chairman of the Intercosmos Scientific Council and at right is Jacques-Louis Lions, President of the National Centre for Space Studies (CNES). French and Soviet scientists have cooperated for many years on space projects, including flying French cosmonauts to the Mir space station and constructing a variety of space probes.
