Animation showing memory T cells (grey rounded cells) flowing through a blood vessel (red) in the dermis. Memory T cells are T cells (T lymphocytes) which have previously encountered an antigen either during a prior infection or from a vaccination. After initial activation and proliferation (primary immune response) some T cells remain in the system and become long lasting memory cells. Upon a subsequent encounter with the same antigen, these memory cells proliferate rapidly and a faster and more effective immune response occurs (secondary immune response).
