Membrane transport, animation. Transmembrane proteins (yellow) allow molecules to move in and out of a cell across the cell membrane (red). The first frame shows the process of uniport. The transmembrane protein binds a single substrate (green). The substrate is then transported across the membrane from high to low concentration. The second frame shows the process of symport. Here two different substrates (green and purple) are transported across the membrane in the same direction. In the final frame two different solutes are transported across the membrane in different directions in a process known as antiport.
