Caption

3D animation showing a new HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) particle which has been released from a host's cell membrane into the extracellular space in an immature form. Proteinase enzyme becomes active within the virus particle, releasing HIV proteins and the particle becomes a mature virion complete with the proteins needed to infect other cells. Thus the replication cycle of the virus continues.
