3D animation of the surface of a T cell infected with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). Once the viral genetic material has entered the host cell, it forms viral DNA in the cytoplasm. This enters the host's nucleus and integrates with host DNA, allowing viral RNA to be formed. Viral RNA makes new viral proteins which move to the cell surface and are assembled into a new immature HIV. Here we can see new HIV particles budding from the host white blood cell's surface into the extracellular space.
