Midge larva. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a buzzer midge (Chironomus plumosus) larva. The buzzer midge, is a species of non-biting midge. Its larvae are often known as bloodworms due to their red colouring, but they can also be brown or almost black in appearance.
