Psoriasis. Psoriasis is a common skin condition that causes skin redness and irritation. Most persons with psoriasis have thick, red skin with flaky, silver-white patches called scales, usually appearing on the elbows and knees, but can affect almost any area of the body. In contrast to eczema, psoriasis is more likely to be found on the extensor aspect of the joint.
