Natural killer (NK) cell attacking an infected cell. Natural killer cells (also known as NK cells, K cells, and killer cells) are a type of lymphocyte (a white blood cell) and a component of autoimmune system. The NK cell attaches itself to the target cell and proteins called perfoin pierce the cell membrane, allowing cytotoxin granules to enter the cell.
