A molecular model of serine, a proteinogenic amino acid synthesized within the human body. Serine plays a role in the synthesis of purines and pyrimidine's, the nitrogenous bases which form the building blocks of DNA and RNA. Serine can also be found on the active sites of various enzymes to support their catalytic function. Atoms are coloured dark grey (carbon), light grey (hydrogen), red (oxygen) and blue (nitrogen).
