A molecular model of ghrelin, a hormone produced by the stomach and pancreas which stimulates hunger. Ghrelin levels will rise before a meal to increase food intake and stimulate gastrointestinal movements. Ghrelin is also linked to enhancements in learning and memory, as well as stimulates the production of growth hormone. Atoms are coloured dark grey (carbon) light grey (hydrogen), blue (nitrogen) and red (oxygen).
