A molecular model of alanine, an amino acid produced in the human body as well as obtained through foods such as meat, dairy, eggs, beans, nuts, soy and whole grains. During times of decreased oxygen, muscles produce alanine which is sent to the liver and used to create glucose. Atoms are coloured dark grey (carbon), light grey (hydrogen), red (oxygen) and blue (nitrogen).
