Caption

A molecular model of somatostatin, a peptide hormone produced in the stomach, intestine, pancreas and hypothalamus. Somatisation is an inhibitory hormone, suppressing the release of growth hormone, thyroid-stimulating hormone and several gastrointestinal hormones after a meal. Atoms are coloured dark grey (carbon), light grey (hydrogen), blue (nitrogen), yellow (sulphur) and red (oxygen).
