Milky Way over William Herschel Telescope. View of the Milky Way in the sky over the William Herschel Telescope at the Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory, La Palma, Canary Islands. This observatory is situated 2,600 metres above sea level and is home to some of the world's leading research telescopes. Bright star Deneb at the tail of Cygnus, the Swan, is seen on the left, close to the red emission North America Nebula. Near the top is the constellation Cassiopeia with its W shape. The neighbouring Andromeda Galaxy (M31) can also be seen (top left).
