Belemnite fossil. Longitudinal section through a belemnite (Acrocoelites vulgaris) fossil showing the phragmocone, the chambered part of the cell. Specimen found in Alum Shales, Ravenscar, Yorkshire, UK. It dates to the Toarcian (183 to 175 million years ago).
