Refracting telescope. Computer artwork of parallel light beams passing through a refracting telescope. The light hits a convex (converging) objective lens (blue, left) and is brought to a focus just in front of the eyepiece (blue, right). The now diverging beams are then passed through the convex eyepiece and leave it as parallel beams. The objective lens is usually much bigger than the eyepiece, allowing it to collect more light.
