Caption

Oval shaped toothpick case made of blonde tortoiseshell and silver with a centrally placed white cameo. This piece originates from mainland europe and dates from around 1800. There is evidence of the use of toothpicks in many of the earliest human cultures. In the 1800s, dental hygiene was becoming more popular, and by the end of the nineteenth century toothpick manufacturing machines were mass producing them to meet demand.
