Coastal rock pools. Pools of seawater in rocks at low tide in Rockham Bay, North Devon, UK. The rocks in this area are slates or shales, with intrusions of quartz. The rock pools are encrusted with algae (seaweed), limpets and mussels. Some of the rocks have intrusions of quartz, resulting in split fragments of shale, slate and boulders of quartz.
