Maxillary palp. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a maxillary palp (centre) from a Harmonia sp. ladybird. This is a sensory organ that is covered in many sensitive hairs that can detect prey through touch, taste and smell. It form part of the beetle's mouthparts. Magnification: x250 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
