Atopic dermatitis. Widespread lesions of atopic dermatitis on the torso of a teenage male patient. Atopic dermatitis, also called atopic eczema, is an inflammatory skin reaction common in childhood that occurs without any obvious external cause. Misdiagnosed as scabies this patient received anti-scabial therapy before being referred to a specialist. Eczema can be treated with soothing ointments and corticosteroid drugs.
