Cystic acne and dissecting folliculitis. Cystic acne on a man's lower face and neck. He also has dissecting folliculitis on his scalp. The latter is a chronic suppurative disease of the scalp characterized by many follicular and perifollicular inflammatory nodules. Those nodules suppurate, can join up, and may result in alopecia (hair loss) and scarring. It may be seen as a variant of cystic acne. The primary lesions are follicular and perifollicular erythematous papules which may progress to abscesses.
