Astrovirus capsid, molecular model. This icosahedral virus was identified in 1975 using electron microscopy. It has a characteristic five-pointed symmetry to its surface, as seen here. It causes a form of gastroenteritis in humans, with symptoms such as diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, fever, and abdominal pain.
