Solar cell. Light micrograph taken with episcopic lighting and Normarski Interference Contrast (DIC) of of a high performance solar cell made from a monocrystalline silicon wafer. When light hits it it releases electrons, which are converted into an electrical current. A grid of wires collects the electrons. Solar power is an environmentally-friendly energy source. It does not use up limited resources and does not release toxic waste products. Horizontal object size: approximately 0.6mm.
