Caption

Parathyroid gland, light micrograph. The blue structures are capillaries, carrying red blood cells. The red cells are chief cells, which produce the hormone parathormon (PTH). There are two pairs of parathyroid glands situated behind the thyroid gland in the neck, which control the blood's calcium and phosphorus levels. Magnification: x440 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
