Penicillium sp. fungus, differential interference contrast (DIC) light micrograph. This fungus grew on a lemon. The round structures seen here are conidia, the asexual reproductive spores of the fungus. Each chain of conidia grows on a specialised hypha (stalk) known as a conidiophore.
