Pancreatitis. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of a section through the abdomen of a patient with pancreatitis. Pancreatitis occurs when the pancreatic tissue (brown, centre right) is being digested by its own enzymes. Symptoms include extreme abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. It is most commonly caused by alcohol abuse or biliary tract disease.
