Soft coral (Alcyonacea) attached to a rock on a sandy seabed. Like the related hard corals, this is a colonial organism made up of thousands of individual polyps that filter plankton from the water. Unlike the more familiar reef-building corals, the colony does not secrete a rocky layer around itself. Filmed in East Timor.
