Caption

High-speed footage of the reaction between a piece of gummi confectionery and potassium chlorate. The gummi contains a mixture of sugars and proteins. Potassium chlorate is a powerful oxidising agent, and rapidly oxidises the sugar in the gummi, generating a lot of heat and producing carbon dioxide and steam.
