Port Stephens, Australia, 18th-century map. This drowned valley estuary is 160 kilometres north-east of Sydney, Australia. The written note (top left) states that high water is at 10 o'clock, with a tidal range of 6-7 feet (around 2 metres), and a speed of 5 miles per hour (about 8 kilometres per hour). Recorded by a Port Jackson painter in the period 1791 to 1792, this map is drawing LS 4 from the Natural History Museum's Watling Collection.
