Crystal structure of thorium. Artwork of the atoms making up the crystal structure of the chemical element thorium (Th, atomic number 90). This face centred cubic (fcc) structure is also called cubic close packed (ccp). Thorium is an actinide, a soft, heavy, and radioactive metal. Thorium-232, used as a nuclear fuel, contributes a large part of the Earth's internal heat. It has a half-life of 14 billion years.
