Caption

Annular solar eclipse. Composite sequence showing the moments before, during and after an annular solar eclipse. Solar eclipses occur when the Moon passes across the Sun as seen from Earth. When the Moon is at a distant point in its orbit, an annular solar eclipse occurs and the corona (revealed in a total eclipse) remains hidden due to the brightness of the solar ring. Photographed from Panama, on 8 April 2005.
