Monteiro's hornbill (Tockus monteiri), endemic to Namibia, feeds exclusively on insects and other small arthropods. Its habitat is the savannah and dry thorn fields of NW Namibia. This bird is named after Joachim J Monteiro (1833-1878) a mining engineer who collected Angolan bird specimens from 1860-1878. Photographed at Okinjima Lodge, Namibia, Southern Africa.
