Thylacine, Hobart Zoo, Tasmania. The Thylacine, or Tasmanian Wolf (Thylacinus cynocephalus) is an extinct animal that lived in Tasmania, Australia. The last individual, shown here in the photo, died as a zoo exhibit on 7th September 1936. Thylacines were predators and blamed by sheep farmers for attacking their flock. A bounty was paid for every specimen killed which, together with habitat destruction and competition with wild dogs, ensured the Thylacine was quickly wiped out in Tasmania.
