Global dust and aerosol, computer model. Simulation showing particles in the Earth's atmosphere. Dust (red) and sea salt (blue) form due to cyclonic wind patterns. Smoke particles (green) originate from natural and man-made fires. Sulphate particles (white) originate from volcanoes and fossil fuel emissions. This visualisation was produced in November 2012 by the Discover supercomputer at the NASA Center for Climate Simulation at the Goddard Space Flight Center as part of The Goddard Earth Observing System Model (GEOS-5). GEOS-5 is an advanced weather modelling system.
