Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky (1857-1935), Russian pioneer of aviation and aerospace design, with his grandson Alexei. One of the first to use open-section wind tunnels, Tsiolkovsky laid many of the foundations of modern aerodynamics. He is best known for his visionary work on the problems of space travel.He spent much of his time as a near-recluse in his log house, in Kaluga, Russia, which is now a museum.
