Dead nettle stem. Light micrograph of a section through the young stem of a dead nettle (Lamium album) plant. From the outer tissue to the pith (centre): epidermis with cuticle (deep blue); collenchyma (blue-black) and cortex of large parenchyma cells (blue); ring of four vascular bundles made up of - four patches of phloem cells (dark-blue), a single ring of cambium (blue-black) and a ring of xylem vessels (black). At the centre, the square stem is hollow. Magnification: x4 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
