Esther Marly Conwell (born 1922), US physicist. Conwell studied semiconductors and organic conductors. She spent 21 years (1952 to 1972) carrying out research at General Telephone and Electronics Corporation, followed by 28 years at the Xerox Wilson Research Center (1972 to 2000). From 1998, she has been a professor at the University of Rochester. She received the 1997 IEEE Edison Medal. In 2002, she was named one of the '50 Most Important Women of Science'. In 2010, she was awarded a National Medal of Science. She married her husband, US author Abraham Rothberg (1922-2011), in 1944. Photograph by the Pach Brothers.
