Gail Gulledge Hanson (left) and John D. Stack (right), US physicists, at a Physics Department colloquium at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), Illinois, USA. Hanson's research has included studies at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) and at the European particle physics laboratory CERN. Her awards include the 1996 Panofsky Prize, and she was elected Fellow of the American Physical Society. Stack specialises in quantum chromodynamics (QCD), lattice gauge theory, and supercomputer models of high-energy physics.
