Luise Meyer-Schutzmeister (1915-1981, nee Schutzmeister), German-US physicist. Meyer-Schutzmeister specialised in researching gamma rays in nuclear reactions. She studied in Germany, where she received her PhD in 1943 from the Technical University of Berlin. She married German-US astrophysicist Peter Meyer (1920-2002) and in the 1950s they moved to the USA, to the University of Chicago. Meyer-Schutzmeister worked at the university's Institute for Nuclear Studies, then at the Argonne National Laboratory from 1956 until her death. Elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society, the Luise Meyer-Schutzmeister Award honours her memory.
