Continental drift maps. Reconstruction of the positions of the world's continents for three periods according to the Displacement Theory. The periods are the Upper Carboniferous, the Eocene, and the Older Quaternary. Two types of projection are used: Mollweide projections (left) and hemispherical projections (right). These maps are from 'The Origin of Continents and Oceans' (1924) by German geophysicist Alfred Wegener (1880-1930), who proposed his theory of continental drift in 1912.
