Bovine disease genetics research. Geneticist preparing to load a flow cell into a genome analyser to examine a sample from a cow. The machine will generate a billion bases of DNA sequence to locate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in cattle. Analysing these genetic variations will help identify susceptibility to diseases. This research is being carried out by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of the US Department of Agriculture. Photographed in the USA.
