Genetically modified alfalfa research. Plant molecular geneticists studying cultivated samples of genetically modified alfalfa (Medicago sativa) to see what factors influence plant development. This plant is an important forage crop, grown to feed animals. Genetically modified varieties have been produced that are resistant to herbicides. This research is being carried out by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of the US Department of Agriculture. Photographed in the USA.
