Differential interference contrast light micrograph of a Stentor sp. freshwater ciliate protozoan. Here, it is using its anterior 'bell' and cilia to feed. Some Stentor species can grow to several millimetres in length, making them among the largest single-celled organisms. Magnification: x240 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
